5 Surprising Ways to Show Your Pet You Love Them

By Veselina Dzhingarova

If you live by yourself, with your partner, or have children, adding a furry friend into the mix can complete the jigsaw and make you feel whole. Whether you’re a dog lover or cats are more your thing, joining millions of others and owning a pet can be a rewarding and enriching experience.

As an animal lover, creating a bond with your pet can provide tons of love and happiness in the home. So, to get on their level and show affection, here are five surprising ways you can show your pet some much needed TLC.

Regular Grooming

Depending on the type of pet you have and their breed, keeping them regularly groomed is crucial for numerous reasons. Whether it’s maintaining their coat, improving skin health, or just showing your love and affection, keeping your pet well-groomed will improve their appearance and help them socialize with others. When grooming, make sure you listen to any warning signs that your pet isn’t happy about being groomed. If they start to growl, you may need to be gentler or back away to give them space.

Give Treats

No matter what kind of pet you have, they are sure to enjoy a treat or two. Giving treats is about far more than expressing your love for your pet, it can be a critical strategy in rewarding them for good behavior. There are lots of treats that are packed with nutrients and vitamins, which are perfect for your companion.

If you have a dog, you may want to treat yourself and show your love in your own way by purchasing a pair of ‘my dog thinks I’m cool’ from Funatic (whether they actually do or not!).

Train Your Pet

When bringing a pet into the household, you need to establish who is boss from the offset. If you don’t train your pet, they will run riot around the home and could destroy prized possessions and furniture, not to mention go to the toilet on your rug. Training your pet can provide invaluable benefits, such as helping them be more sociable, forming a strong bond between owner and animal, as well as teaching them tricks.

Gaze into Their Eyes

There has been research carried out that indicates when a pet stares into your eyes, they’re essentially hugging you with love. However, this doesn’t mean you should stare back at them, as direct eye contact is still regarded as a threat or challenge for many pets. Once you establish a strong bond with your pet, try and gaze into their eyes when you’re relaxing.

Be Yourself

Many pet owners make the mistake of trying too hard when it comes to showing love to their pets. You need to remember that animals show love back in their own way. So, if you’re expecting your cat and dog to always come for cuddles and kisses, you can forget it. Just simply be yourself and your pet will feel calmer and more relaxed in your presence.

Whether you have brought a cat into the home, rescued a dog, or have a mixture of pets, there are lots of ways you can show your love in a way they will understand. Alongside the health benefits of owning a pet, creating a strong bond with your companion can provide comfort and joy.
