It’s been four years since my first Rent the Runway experience, and I’ve been hooked ever since. But it’s actually been five years since the service and website launched. To celebrate, Rent the Runway collaborated with seven favorite designers to create the 5Y Collection, which features 25 new pieces exclusive to Rent the Runway. Featured designers are Lela Rose, Christian Siriano, Oscar de la Renta, Badgley Mischka, Kenneth Jay Lane, Marchesa Voyage, and Monique Lhuillier.
In an email to customers, owners Jenn Hyman and Jenny Fleiss explained the depth of their growth, “Today we have a wonderful team of nearly 300 people, 5 million women who are part of the Rent the Runway community, and we run the largest dry cleaner in America.” What a journey it has been, and I am so glad to benefit from their great idea. Hyman and Fleiss saw a problem among label-addicted fashionistas on a budget and provided a valid solution. I am grateful to them both.
