April seems to be the month of fashion events in Las Vegas. On April 20th, the Junior League of Las Vegas opened its headquarters, a mid-century modern home once owned by Helen and Antonio Morelli, and a prime example of modern residential architecture of that time, and showcased a vintage fashion show.
It’s been reported that Antonio, orchestra conductor and musical director for the Sands Hotel from 1954-1971, had Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. in his home rehearsing. As such, his wife Helen was quite the society member with a wardrobe to match. And it was this wardrobe that the members of the Morelli House Public Program Committee of the Junior League of Las Vegas presented to fashion show attendees. Giving us insight into what Mrs. Morelli and her friends wore to various events back in the day, the show was an educational presentation, while remaining stylish and entertaining.
So often I am asked by visitors, “Where should I go in Las Vegas, besides the Strip?” I am apt to now tell them to take a tour of the Morelli House. Historic, stylish and chic, one can really get a sense of those Rat Pack days by simply walking through the door. Tours of ten or more are available free of charge by appointment. Call the Junior League at 702-822-6536 or email the group at [email protected] For more information, visit the Junior League of Las Vegas website at www.jllv.org.
Everyone looks positively lovely! Couldn’t ask for prettier models or nicer period clothing! So sorry to have missed this! Donna
It was a great presentation, Donna. Between the modeling, the ambiance and the storytelling, it was quite a journey into a stylish past. Hopefully, it will happen again!
