The wrong underwear can completely ruin your holiday outfits. Not even a gorgeous Diane Von Furstenberg dress can hide the lumps, bumps, and bulges that can occur from a bra that doesn’t fit correctly, a pair of panties that shows lines, and a lack of body shapers, which, believe me, everyone else at your holiday event will notice.
It’s good to be body positive, but I know you also want to keep your festive looks chic, neat, and smooth, right? Don’t diet during what is usually a yummy season. Instead, shop for the right bras, panties, and body shapers for your holiday outfits. Here are my tips.
Know Your Size
I mean, really know your size. You may think you’re a 38C, but if your breasts look smushed beneath your favorite LBD, you could actually be a 38DD. When was the last time you were fitted for a bra? If it’s been more than two years, you’re due for an appointment.
Knowing your correct size in bras, panties, and body shapers will solve all of your ill-fitting underwear issues. But, it will take research on your part. Yes, you’re going to have to go into a store, into a dressing room, and try this stuff on.
I know. I know. Most women hate trying things on. But how else are you going to find the right under garments for your holiday outfits?
Be sure to wear a pair of panties beneath each other pair of panties or body shaper that you try on, just to be hygienically safe. My favorite place to get measured for a bra is Neiman Marcus. I don’t recommend Victoria’s Secret for bra fittings. I’m a DDD cup, and I once had a Victoria’s Secret associate tell me I was a B cup. I think she might have been jealous. Who knows? You can trust Neiman Marcus. Just go there. (Or Dillard’s, if you don’t have a Neiman Marcus in your area.)
Know Your Brand(s)
Once you know your correct sizes, then experiment with different brands. For example, while I do know my correct bra size, I find that Wacoal feels more comfortable than Natori. I love Natori, but I find the brand is just a tad too snug.
For panties, I love Savage X Fenty. Again, try on a variety of brands, way in advance of your holiday event, to find the right ones for you. Then, stick with those specific brands!
Try Before You Buy
One of the BEST tips I can give you is to take your holiday outfit with you to try on bras, panties, and body shapers. If you don’t have your Christmas Day or New Year’s Eve outfits just yet, take what you wore to last year’s events with you to try on these pieces.
For example, if you like wearing sweater dresses to Christmas Eve dinner, then take one that you already have with you to try on your body shapers. If you’re a low plunge New Year’s Eve reveler, take one of your low plunge outfits with you to try on with the right bra. Don’t expect the underwear you tried on with your jeans and T-shirt to look good under your fancy holiday clothes. It just won’t be the same.
Looking good does take a little bit of work. But, you got this! Do some research. Try some stuff on. Be sure you know the return policy of every place where you make a purchase, just in case when you try your underwear purchases with your holiday outfit at home, and it doesn’t work out, you can still make a return. But, if you do wear those purchases to your event, do NOT even try to return them afterward. That’s just wrong.
So there you have it. Know your size. Know your brand. And try your bras, panties, and body shapers on with your holiday outfit (or something close to it), and you’ll be looking so good at all your parties and events. Have a great season!
