It was inevitable. We went on lock down to prevent the spread of COVID-19 only to find ourselves stress eating, feeling too depressed to work out (or without the equipment to do so at home), and the weight has packed on. One day, when things are back to normal and we can enjoy the change of the season and bask in the glory of the sun, we may not feel all that normal with the additional 15 pounds we inadvertently added to our physique! What’s a woman to do? Well, I would advise you to get back to working out and eating healthily to lose the unwanted pounds, but as you work to do this, your wardrobe can help you hide weight gain. Here’s how.
Wear the Right Size Clothing
Clothing that is too small will pucker in the most unflattering ways and reveal every bump and bulge. Don’t be too quick to list your items on Poshmark just yet. However, until you get back down to your ideal weight, figure out what your new correct size is and dress for the body you have.
Having said that, don’t jump ahead to wear clothes that are too large, either. Doing so will just add further bulk. You really do need to find your new correct size and stick with it. Clothes that fit correctly will help to hide weight gain.
Wear Clothes that Camouflage
Now that you know your correct size, shop for items that camouflage that additional weight. For example wrap dresses are an amazing and dependable go-to for creating an hourglass figure and hiding weight gain. In fact, there are even one-piece swimsuits that showcase a wrap design, too. Try them out.
Also, anything, be it tops, dresses, or swimwear, that features a gathering or ruching design along the torso will help to hide a bloated tummy. Bermuda style long shorts cover up out-of-shape thighs, while high-waist jeans guarantee the elimination of a muffin top.
Wear Loose Clothing
Now is a GREAT time to wear loose-fitting tunics and maxi dresses. T-shirt dresses are also a great option. Again, stick to your new correct size. Do not opt for a larger-than-necessary size. It will only make you look even bigger. But, seriously, go enjoy loose-fitting clothes that flow nicely and hide weight gain.
Wear Prints
The idea that a print emphasizes one’s size is a myth. Prints distract the eye, especially when they’re bright or colorful. It is true, depending on the print, one could lean toward a fashion disaster. However, most prints will work. It depends on what areas of the body the print hits. In fact, I recommend reading this guide from Verily to understand which prints will flatter your body the most.
Wear Shapewear
If you haven’t already been building a wardrobe of shapewear, now is the time to begin. Just like the correct size clothes can help to hide weight gain, the right undergarments will smooth you out in all the right places. You still need to wear the correct size clothing, but you will look sleek, smooth, and sexy with all the proper shapewear in place.
Wear a Smile
Look, you’re not alone! So many people are coming out of self isolation with more pounds on their body than when this all started. It’s normal. Weight gain is normal. Don’t be hard on yourself. Accept, love, and appreciate your new body. Be glad it got you through this global turmoil. Put on a smile and be grateful for the day when this is all done.
