Last Saturday, June 2, Las Vegas fashion lovers enjoyed a runway show at The Palms Casino Resort. The event, “Fashion in the City, featured local designers and models and was hosted by “America’s Next Top Model” winner Eva Marcille.
“Fashion in the City” is a traveling extravaganza with the intention of bringing together people of various ethnicity while showcasing their extraordinary talents. “Las Vegas was chosen because it’s a city that’s known for entertainment, but not fashion as one would think,” Shelli Blacknell, fashion designer and “Fashion in the City” founder, explains why Las Vegas was a stop on her tour. “I wanted the challenge to intertwine the two.”
The featured emerging clothing designers were given the opportunity to showcase their fashion collections and bridge the gap from aspiring to professional while money was raised to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Nevada at UMC’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Featured designers were: AffectionInk, Breezy by CC, Caprice Couture, Kitty Cappella, Kitt L’eau, K. Rose Couture, Naute’ Empress (pronounced Naughty and designed by Blacknell), Navi, Reyna Herrera Design Lab and Zulma.
“I think the Las Vegas show was amazing and much more than people expected,” Blacknell reports. “The designers were great. I, of course, chose each and everyone of them and saw some of their previous work, but they took my breath away when I saw what they came up with for the burlesque theme. Great job!”
