In the 13 years I’ve lived in Las Vegas, the four-day Downtown Summerlin Grand Opening Street Festival is the greatest celebration event I’ve ever attended, and that includes New Year’s Eve on the Strip. Yes, that’s a bold statement. But it’s true.
It all began with a ribbon cutting at the doors of Dillard’s, and the celebration continued throughout Downtown Summerlin with personal appearances and a spectacular light show and fireworks display that evening. Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval was in attendance, thanking The Howard Hughes Corporation for turning a dream into a reality. The crowd was HUGE, filling the streets of Downtown Summerlin.
Friday, October 10th, was packed with more personal appearances at Dillard’s, Crowd Siren social media models handing out $25 gift cards, prizes, giveaways, shopping, and food trucks.

Saturday, October 11th, was Street Style day, with fashion shows taking place outdoors on The Promenade, while fashion designer Karen Kane made a personal appearance at Dillard’s and showcased her Fall/Winter collection. Later that evening, the Xtreme Fashion Show took the fashion show concept beyond fashion by incorporating dance, acrobats, drumming, and stunt performances.

On Sunday, October 12th, the shopping continued, along with the Eat Street food truck festivities combined with jazz music. Additionally, Downtown Summerlin invited me to take over its Instagram account, which I happily did. Shopping the various store options, I put together some stylish looks that prove fashion DOES meet the rock at Downtown Summerlin.
With free street parking, which is major in Las Vegas because street parking in Downtown Las Vegas and even at Town Square Las Vegas is metered, a pet-friendly environment (there are pet watering stations about), a Regal Luxury Theater (king size recliners and wine!), and a House of Hoops by Footlocker for the sneakerheads, Downtown Summerlin is truly making an impact on Las Vegas residents.
But visitors are also welcomed to venture off the Strip and take in the beautiful and energetic ambiance of this shopping and entertainment lifestyle center. Expansive, diverse, and anchored by the chicest Dillard’s I’ve ever seen and shopped, Downtown Summerlin will continue to be a must-shop, must-visit spot for shopaholics, fashionistas, and families. If you haven’t visited it yet, do so now.
Shop, eat, and get entertained at Downtown Summerlin at Sahara and the 215 Beltway. For more information, including a store directory, visit the website at www.downtownsummerlin.com.
