What a glorious time to be alive! With the legalization of medical cannabis, cannabidiol (CBD), and recreational marijuana, Americans are finally able to experience the benefits of cannabis. And, believe me, there are many, many benefits.
The negative stigma associated with cannabis has at long last been removed, and general society is educating itself on the subject, learning that reefer does not lead to madness but can rather improve one’s lifestyle in a myriad of ways.
Marijuana is no longer about simply getting high. The advantages of the plant go way beyond that. But as the number of states that are legalizing cannabis continue to increase, more and more people are finding themselves justifiably curious about using it yet left to wonder what it could do for them. Generally speaking, here are some common reasons why people incorporate cannabis into their routine for self-care.
Treat pain.
Whether you suffer from ongoing pain as a result of an old injury or monthly menstrual cramps, smoking a joint is a great way to treat the pain. For those who are afraid of the high that often accompanies marijuana, CBD oil can also reduce pain without the effects of THC.
Soothe anxiety.
From stress to panic attacks, cannabis can be the answer you seek, and a better alternative to medication. Consult with an expert budtender, first. The wrong strain of marijuana could actually make your anxiety worse. When you walk into a dispensary, speak with an associate and let them know about your issues with anxiety and they will be able to make some recommendations. I personally rely on Indica to manage my anxiety, preferring it in the form of a pre-rolled joint. Also, it’s good to know that outdoor grown strains tend to have lesser THC percentage which makes them perfect for daily use and stress control. Again, ask an experienced budtender for help on selecting the right option for you.

Improve sleep.
I don’t suffer from insomnia, but I know people who do, and boy, it sounds awful! Just like with managing anxiety, the right strain of marijuana can help you get a good night’s sleep.
It’s a better alternative to alcohol.
If what you seek is a high or a stoned feeling, and you normally use alcohol for that, cannabis is a much better option. The long-term effects of alcohol consumption can ruin your liver. Marijuana consumption is so much healthier.
Spur creativity.
Some of the best stuff I’ve ever written, I wrote while under the influence of cannabis. Hemingway said, “Write drunk. Edit sober.” To heck with that. I say, “Write high. Edit sober.” Believe it or not, there is an actual study that leans toward the theory that marijuana use can have a positive effect on creativity. According to Psychology Today, the study claims that this is due to the production of “psychotomimetic symptoms, which in turn might lead to connecting seemingly unrelated concepts, an aspect of divergent thinking considered primary to creative thinking.”

Now that’s just a few of the benefits. There are so many more. If you live in or are visiting a state where cannabis is legal, don’t hesitate to visit a dispensary and explore your options.
Marijuana is not just for lazy potheads with no ambition. It’s for anyone who is looking for holistic ways to better improve the quality of their life.
I love this! And I agree with the pain relief. As a hairstylist I am on my feet abnormal hours in a day and when my dogs get to barkin I rub CBD oil on them and it is almost an instant relief from the inflammation and ache. The beauty if I van still work and drive as it has no THC to alter my state.
Amazing stuff! Thanks for sharing,

Thanks for commenting, Dee! Yes, I agree. CBD oil seems to be like a miracle worker.
I have some friends who use medicinal cannabis for anxiety and they can’t speak highly enough about it!
Thanks for commenting, Andy. I have family members who do the same and express the same opinion as your friends.
