Beauty Products for Women Over 35

ShareTweet

From the time that we’re teenagers when we first begin to discover beauty products, we’re aware that our skin will age—that at some point, our skin will be, well, different. Eventually, we’ll need specific beauty products for women over 35. At least, that’s what all the advertisements tell us.

In our 20s, we seem to forget about that warning. Maybe we just feel invincible and immortal with all that youth and vigor coursing through our veins. But then we hit 35, and it’s like Mother Nature slaps us in the flippin’ face. First, you spot a line. Then, you notice some weird ass facial hair. Oh, and of course, those damn pores! They just keep getting bigger and bigger, don’t they?

As Truvy in the movie “Steel Magnolias” said:

Time marches on and sooner or later you realize it is marchin’ across your face.

What we used to clear up acne at age 19 won’t work for us when we’re 40. (I mean, seriously. What is it with adult acne???) However, there is a silver lining, at least for those of us who are beauty product junkies. There are all these new products to discover, use, and enjoy. It’s a big huge market out there, and so many companies have jumped into it, creating specialized products to solve your skin woes.

This roundup focuses on more than just simple skincare. We change as we age, period. So whether your issues are an uneven skin tone or a desire to use products that are earth-friendly, check out a few of my recent favorite beauty products for women over 35.

Problem: Feeling guilty for using products that are bad for the environment

Solution:Kuleana

In Hawaiian, “kuleana” literally means a personal sense of responsibility. And as we age, we do tend to care about our personal environmental impact. We try to create less waste, recycle more, etc. With the skincare line from Kuleana, you can rest easy that you’re using products from a brand that practices sustainability and supports local farming. My two favorites from the line are the Soothefacial cleanser and moisturizing beauty oil, which uses macadamia nut oil. I had been suffering from redness, irritation, and inflammation, and since I have been using both products daily, I have managed to eliminate those skin issues. Plus, the beauty oil pairs well with my regular moisturizers. For more info or to shop, go to KuleanaBeauty.com.

Problem: Dry, saggy skin

Solution:Triple Quench Deep Hydration Sheet Mask System by Julep

This is NOT your ordinary sheet mask. No, no, no. The Triple Quench Deep Hydration Sheet Mask System from Julep is a well-thought-out system (yes, system!) of preparation, hydration, along with the sealing in of vitamins and fatty acids to nourish, protect, and soften skin. I like to use it before bedtime, and in the morning, your skin will look like you turned back time! This stuff is a game changer. Buy the Triple Quench Deep Hydration Sheet Mask System at Ulta.

Problem: Midday tired skin

Solution:Eau de Beauté Beauty Elixir by Caudalíe

What the heck is it about the 2 p.m. hour that causes our skin to look a little rough? Is it the stress of the workday? The sun? Or, is it just that time decides to march across our faces at that specific moment, as Truvy says? Who knows? What I DO know is that the Eau de Beauté Beauty Elixir is my answer. With the weather warming up, I suggest keeping yours in the refrigerator, for that extra pick-me-up. This beauty product is designed to tighten pores, set your makeup, and boost your radiance. Use it right before you head to after-work happy hour. Get it at Anthropologie.

Problem: Sensitive mouth

Solution:ClōSYS Oral Hygiene

Okay, so maybe a sensitive mouth isn’t a beauty issue so much as it is a personal care issue. One thing is for sure. It’s an aging issue. From burning mouth syndrome to sensitive teeth, you may have found yourself less able to tolerate the alcohol and other chemicals normally found in toothpastes and mouthwashes. With oral hygiene products from ClōSYS, you can maintain the cleanliness and health of your teeth and mouth, without irritation. Shop at ClōSYS.com.

Problem: You’re not mentally prepared to blow dry your hair

Solution: Phantom Hydrating Dry Shampoo Foam by amika

So, as we get older, the more tired we get. And if your hair is longer than the current, trendy bob, then you know a lot of energy goes into blowing it out after a wash. For those days when you’re just too damn tired to wash and blow dry your hair, there’s amika’s Phantom Hydrating Dry Shampoo Foam. Not only does it gently absorb dirt and oil while hydrating the scalp, the product also revitalizes and adds volume to your unwashed hair. Your mane ends up soft, fresh, and ready to go. Purchase it at Sephora.

Problem: You forgot to put on sunscreen

Solution:Colorescience Sunforgettable Brush-on Sunscreen

You’re at that age. You forget stuff, including applying sunscreen prior to your foundation. I get it. I do it, too. That’s why I love the Sunforgettable Brush-on Sunscreen powder by Colorescience. I layer it over foundation and use it as my defense system against the sun. Available in four shades from fair to deep, it looks like nothing but protects you from everything. Select from SPF 30 or 50. Buy it at the DermStore.

Some complimentary products were received for review, but that did not affect my opinion.
