As of today, Las Vegas’ second Metro Diner location is now open to the public. Touted as the spot “where the locals eat” and serving “comfort food with flair,” Metro Diner opened its first Las Vegas spot in March. A third is planned for Henderson before the end of the year.
Being that I am originally from Texas, it should come as no surprise that I love comfort food. If it’s high in carbs and smothered in gravy, you can bet that I am going to love it. But what makes Metro Diner’s type of comfort food special and interesting is that the restaurant adds a contemporary twist to its dishes.
For example, I ordered the Charleston Shrimp & Grits, and it’s not your usual grits. Metro Dinner serves this plate up with two “grit cakes” that are infused with cheese, roasted red peppers and Andouille sausage. Then the cakes are topped with with more sausage, shrimp, onions, peppers, and shrimp sauce, which I would describe as a delectable gravy, and garnished with bacon. It is to-die-for! While the meal was filling, it wasn’t heavy. The serving was large, and I couldn’t finish the whole thing in one sitting, but it sure served nicely as leftovers for dinner.
Additionally, Metro Diner serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day long. So it doesn’t matter if it’s 6 p.m. You can still order Eggs Benedict, if that’s what you feel like having. It’s Vegas. We have no rules about what to eat when. And even if we did, Sin City foodies tend to be rebellious. If you are, then I think you’ll especially enjoy Metro Diner. It definitely has a unique edge to it.
Eat at the new Metro Diner located at 7305 South Rainbow. Hours are Sunday-Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Visit the website at MetroDiner.com.
