3 New Year’s Resolutions to Improve Your Personal Style

A New Year means a new beginning. Everyone is making a list of goals to achieve in 2013. You are probably among them. And if so, I have three New Year’s resolutions I encourage you to make that will enhance your personal style. Before you go on a diet, before you go shopping for new clothes to help create a new you, I encourage to you to try these three simple things that will give you an instant makeover.
- Love yourself now. You are probably under the impression that you are already doing that. But if you have ever had a critical thought of your body or face (or both) as you gazed upon your reflection, then you’re actually not completely loving yourself. To love yourself is to love yourself wholly and accept yourself as you are today. Don’t wait to love yourself (or wait to be happy) until you lose ten pounds, get the job you’ve been coveting or receive the marriage proposal you’ve been fantasizing about. When you love yourself completely, your confidence level will soar and that will have a very positive affect on your personal style. You’ll stand taller, look thinner for the better posture and captivate a room full of strangers with the glow you radiate from loving yourself as you are.
- Smile. A smile can complete an outfit. And you don’t have to have a perfect smile either. A person who smiles is a person who is approachable, happy and attractive. Even the prettiest woman wearing the chicest outfit can ruin her whole look with a scowl. So smile, smile, smile!
- Practice politeness and kindness. Holding the door open for someone else, helping a person who is lost, or telling an overwhelmed service worker what a great job he or she is doing will not only make someone else’s day, but it will also make you feel like a good human being. And feeling good about how you treat others will fuel your ability to love yourself and will inspire you to smile even more.
I bet it never occurred to you that good personal style actually begins with very basic concepts. It’s true. Work on these three resolutions and you’ll soon be feeling really good about your personal style.
