Nail fashion has become quite the rage, and the book Homemade Nail Polish: Create Unique Colors and Designs for Stunning Nails is the perfect read for the nail-obsessed fashionista with a talent for do-it-yourself projects.
Filled with recipes for making and mixing your own nail colors, with or without glitter, Homemade Nail Polish is a guidebook to fulfilling your manicure dreams. The book’s author, Allison Rose Spiekermann, is the founder and creative director of Nail Pattern Boldness, an indie nail polish company. Among the pages of this book, she takes you through the step-by-step process for formulating your own colors and glitter combinations. It’s pretty fascinating stuff, and just may inspire you to start your own indie nail polish line. Who knows?
Here’s the caveat: making your own nail polish truly is a DIY project and a labor of love. Think about it. Have you ever tried to mix your own nail polish at home, only to end up with a goopy mess? I would say that’s how I spent most of my Saturdays during junior high. Well, it turns out that very specific measuring and very specific tools are needed to make nail polish. But don’t let that scare you away, because Homemade Nail Polish simplifies the process with easy-to-understand instructions and photographs. Oh, and here’s a fun fact. Did you know that one of the easiest ingredients you can use to make nail polish is eye shadow? See? I said this was fascinating stuff.
The book even contains tips and tricks for nail polish application, plus some solid nail art ideas, including tape stencils, glitter gradient effects, how to cut up nail polish strips, and creating galaxy nails (my favorite!). I DIY my own manicures and pedicures because I find it so relaxing and it allows me to be creative. But if you’re interested in taking it a step further by creating your own unique nail polishes, too, then you have to give this book a read.
